"There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death." Proverbs 14:12 ESV
We have all seen those amusing cartoons with the caption "it seemed like a good idea at the time...." and then some image of a calamity coming upon someone where there was an avoidable danger. We can all find ourselves in a calamity as a result of stepping into something that might have looked like a good idea at the time, but has lead to consequences. It may have been a way that "seemed right", but was not, and may even lead to our demise.
To avoid such consequences we should check with our Guide and beware. We should beware of the things that will tempt us or have us blind to the dangers that may come across a chosen path.
Your Guide is the Word of God which would have us beware of desire, deception and distraction.
Beware of following your own desires:
"Let no one say when he is tempted, 'I am being tempted by God,' for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death." James 1:13-15 ESV
Make sure that the way you are choosing is not motivated by your own desires.
Beware of being deceived:
"See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ." Colossians 2:8 ESV
Make sure that your are not being deceived. Be patient. "Patience is the weapon that forces deception to reveal itself."
Beware of being distracted:
"Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." 1 Peter 5:8 ESV
Make sure that you are watchful and thoughtful about where you are going.
This week be mindful that things that might look good on the outside aren't always, and some things that seem too good to be true often are not good. Use your Guide to go the right way.
