Want vs. Work

"Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper." Proverbs 13:4 NLT

As in many of the Proverbs, this week we find another contrast. There is an easily observable contrast in what we receive; getting little vs. those that prosper.  But I want to draw your attention to the activity that brings the result:

Want vs. Work

There is little reward for those that want something but don't put it any effort to obtain it. The author calls those people"lazy".  It is unproductive to nurture a want without participating in the process to obtain it. Whether it is relational, financial, or inspirational, it is not wishes that move us forward, but hard work. Tchaikovsky said; "Inspiration is a guest that does not willingly visit the lazy."

What I want and what I get is often a reflection of the effort that I apply.

If you are completely content with where you are heading then my encouragement is to stay the course. But, if you are dissatisfied in your position, your direction, or the expression of your life, then make a decision to change. Maybe it is time to work hard for the vision God had given you and maybe it's time to quit some of those old ways:

"If you are going to quit anything, quit being lazy, quit making excuses, and quit waiting for the right time." - Joe Duncan - Before5am

This week quit putting off the things that you need to do. Work hard for the desires that God has put in your heart.

In His Hands,

John
